Sean Noonan: Sidewalk Talismans
The gallery is pleased to present Sidewalk Talismans, a Project Room exhibition, featuring new paintings by Sean Noonan.
Sean Noonan (b.1986) creates small-scale paintings that synthesize his experience in the outside world. Moments, forms, impressions and fleeting visuals make their ways into the paintings by turning into gestures and marks. He paints with oil and enamel on found and often weathered wood – and sometimes on collected paper – embracing the inherent history within the materials. He strives to keep his painterly vocabulary unfastened and free, seeking to capture marks singularly his own, similar to the cultivation of a person’s own handwriting. The surfaces and textures of his paintings are dynamic, and the motifs seem to exist in a fluid state. Using aged and age-old materials such as found wood and oil paint, Noonan attempts to capture the buoyant and the intangible in life.
Noonan is a Hudson Valley-based artist and a graduate of Pratt Institute. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include: LKIF Gallery, Seoul, Korea; Resort, Baltimore, MD; Galleri Kai, Copenhagen, Denmark; Poker Flats,Williamstown, MA; Teffia Gallery,Kingston, NY; Ortega Y Gasset Projects, Brooklyn, NY; Sears-Peyton Gallery, New York, NY; Devening Projects, Chicago, NY.
