About

Yael Medrez Pier (b. 1990, Mexico City, Mexico) lives and works in Mexico City. In Medrez Pier’s new series, “Woven Heritage: A Window into Cultural Richness and Humanity through Ethnic Women’s Pioneering Textiles,” she presents a world of cloths with a profound narrative on beauty, creativity, and cultural significance. The women, in their national apparel, are portrayed heroically through the lens of compassion and admiration. She uses textiles, beyond piece goods, as a medium that carries stories, traditions, and the essence of generational creative spirits. Her work opens a window into the rich tapestry of cultural heritage. The canvas becomes a sounding board where she engages in a visual dialogue with the world, using the brush as an amplifier to portray the courage and resilience of the depicted communes. With each brushstroke, she brings attention to the intricate patterns and vibrant colors significant and unique to diverse cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the beauty of these civilizations. Transcending language barriers, the paintings, made with oil on aluminum, or on wood, encourage the viewer to embrace cultural diversity.
